Our presence at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference keeps growing. This year, a total of 64 speakers presented their work as part of 15 sessions organised by the GLTRG (either solely sponsored by us or co-sponsored with other research groups) under the following themes:
- Migration Blurrings: Exploring the Social Orientated Motives for Mobility and Migration
- Innovative Spaces of Learning: Debating their Origin, Nature and Pedagogical Significance
Organised in conjunction with the Higher Education Research Group, the Social and Cultural Geography Research Group, and the Space, Sexualities and Queer Research Group - Lifestyle Mobilities and Corporealities: Intersections and Issues
Organised in conjunction with the the Social and Cultural Geography Research Group - Narrating the Stories of Travel and Tourism: Historical Narratives of Travel
Organised in conjunction with the Historical Geography Research Group - Research(ing) Ethics in Tourism: Research Ethics in Tourism
- Mediating the Tourist Experience: The Role of the Media in Contemporary Tourism
- Urban Subversions: Conceptualising Alternative Urban Pastimes in the Modern World City
Organised in conjunction with the Urban Geography Research Group
The session organisers were joined by colleagues from around the world to discuss contemporary issues and developments in the geographies of leisure and tourism. The themes reflect the vibrant nature of tourism and leisure and their role within an inherently dynamic, fluid and complex world and we look forward to equally engaging themes for the 2011 RGS-IBG annual conference on the wider topic of The Geographical Imagination.
